Di cosa parla Into the Abyss?
Nel raccogliere testimonianze tra i detenuti del braccio della morte, il regista Werner Herzog si imbatte nella storia di Jason Burkett e Michael Perry, due giovani ragazzi arrestati nel 2001 per triplice omicidio e condannati rispettivamente all'ergastolo uno e a morte l'altro. Rei di aver ucciso con l'aggravante dei futili motivi - il furto di un'auto per una gita fuori porta -, vennero inchiodati da prove inconfutabili contro di loro, tanto che il verdetto della giuria non ammise scusanti. Dopo aver intervistato Perry e Burkett a solo otto giorni dall'esecuzione, al fine di esaminare le dinamiche legate al sistema giudiziario americano, il regista incontra anche i familiari delle vittime, dei colpevoli, gli agenti della polizia e le forze di legge coinvolte nella vicenda.
